Benefit Advisors Network: Conference Recap

Our CEO, Jamie Hawkins, and Director of Client Relations and Strategic Initiatives, Josh Hoover, braved the August heat of Phoenix, AZ to attend the Benefit Advisors Network (BAN) Summer conference. These are always great events, and we learn so much about how we can best support our partners. This conference was no different.

At most BAN conferences Jamie and Josh kick off the General Session with our big HR Technology Update. We offer a very candid look at the market and where we are seeing successes and opportunities for many vendors to show improvements both from a technology perspective and from an execution standpoint. We also cover key initiatives going on within BTR. This session our key initiatives are the launch of BTA (our new benchmarking product)and announcing to our BAN partners about the new Express RFP service we are offering for clients that do not have time for a full and custom RFP for new technology. We received overwhelmingly positive feedback on the launch of both initiatives.

“We hope you’re getting excited to talk #HRtech #BANaz2018! Our @jamieshawkins and @Josh_HCMguru are prepping with our trusted partner Eric Rensch of @CodeSixFour right now!” via @bentechre

Jamie and Josh have become known for creativity in choosing their “walk-out” music, andthere was much debate going into Phoenix. Let’s justsay that we “settled” with “The Heat Is On” by Glenn Frey. Considering it was 114 degrees on Monday that was an appropriate choice.

Once our session is complete,we spend the rest of the event focusing on catching up with our partners. Whether just passing between break-out rooms or enjoying each other’s company at dinner, we are always remindedabout how lucky we are to have such great partners. Jamie and Josh were able to personally catch up with Bolton, Benefit Commerce Group, The Crichton Group, Bouchard, Gregory & Appel, Ironwood, Lipscomb & Pitts, The Miller Group, The Insurance Exchange, and TIS. We also got to connect with The Alera Group and our partners within Alera: SIG, Centennial, GCG, Ardent Solutions, AIA and Pentra.

There were other sessions we were able to attend that left us some fantastic takeaways. C. Richard Weylman was the keynote speaker, andhe was excellent. He reminded attendees of the importance of “elevating the customer experience to set yourself apart.” He was one of the best speakers we have heard in a long time, andhe gave us some great ideas how we can elevate our relationship with our partners, and how you and your agencies can elevate your service and support to your clients (you can find Richard’s latest book here). Beyond the keynote we were able to attend the new member orientation session to introduce ourselves, the Employee Navigator breakout, a Marketing and Social Media breakout, and a compliance update by Janet Trautwein from NAHU. Other sessionsincluded Communication and engagement, how to survive 4thquarter, and total health management and pharmacy strategies.

“And we’re off! Scott Wood of BCG kicks off the general session at #BANaz2018! BTR’s @jamieshawkins and @Josh_HCMguru take the stage to talk all things #HRtech in 20 minutes!” via @bentechre
